Amazon FBA Prep: What Your Chinese Supplier Must Get Right

FNSKU labeling, carton rules and double-purpose inspection: the FBA prep requirements to build into your China order before production starts.

Warehouse cardboard boxes - Amazon FBA prep requirements from Chinese suppliers
Amazon FBA punishes packaging mistakes brutally: unlabeled units get stranded, non-compliant cartons get refused at the warehouse, and every error costs fees plus selling days. The fix is making FBA prep requirements part of supplier selection and production - not a post-production surprise. This article covers what your Chinese supplier must get right.

Labeling requirements

Every sellable unit needs a scannable FNSKU label covering the barcode, applied flat and permanent. Some categories require expiration dates in a specific format. Confirm your supplier can print and apply compliant labels - or plan to label at a prep center, which adds cost and time.

Carton and packing rules

Cartons have requirements too: box weight limits, box dimensions on the carton label, no mixed SKUs in a box unless the marketplace allows case packs, and sufficient dunnage so units arrive undamaged. Suppliers used to FBA know these; suppliers new to it will happily pack their standard export cartons and let you discover the problem at receiving.

Why inspection matters double for FBA

An FBA shipment fails twice if it is defective and non-compliant - so the pre-shipment inspection should check product quality and FBA prep together: labels scannable, quantities per carton correct, polybags with suffocation warnings where required, and carton specifications matched to your shipment plan.

Frequently asked questions

Can my Chinese supplier ship directly to Amazon?

Many do. What matters is that the booking, labeling and carton requirements are agreed with the supplier and verified at inspection before dispatch.

Who prints the FNSKU labels?

Either the supplier or a prep center - decide before production, because it changes who does the packing and what the factory quotes.

What is the most common FBA prep failure?

Labeling applied over seams or at angles that will not scan - preventable with a photo check during inspection.
